I’ve been spending a lot of time with two favorite writers lately, Joss Whedon and Joseph Campbell. I’m in the mist of watching Campbell’s Mythos 1 as well as Buffy’s Season 1.

Of course, Buffy is a rewatch. I’m about half way through the first season. It’s a delight. It’s cheesy and campy and wonderfully fun. I’m really viewing Buffy for kicks and inspiration. That section of my book is ready to go into the editing phase. When I start rewatching Angel in a few months, that’s when I’ll be getting into the real nitty-gritty of the new section of my book.
I’ve watched the first section of Mythos 1 and will do a full write up about it when I finish the 5-hour set. So far I am enjoying the Campbell aspect of it, but I am less than pleased with the interruptive Susan Sarandon narrations. It’s fine to have a narration at the beginning, but every time Campbell changes gears in his lecture, Sarandon appears to recap what we’ve just heard and lead us into what’s next. It jostles me out of my Campbell mind frame and I find it quite unnecessary. Oh well. The lecture material is great and I could listen to Campbell talk all day.
I’ll be taking a break from my work for the rest of the week to spend time with out-of-town family. I’m so excited about this. The last time my family was in town I didn’t have any time off, even though it was for my own wedding!! Now, I’m in summer vacation bliss and can spend every waking minute with my grandmother and the rest of the gang.
Have a beautiful week, folks!
